More Cape Region restaurants serving up locally-roasted Swell Joe Coffee

July 11, 2016

Swell Joe Coffee Company in Lewes continues to brew up a tasty business. Its signature roasts are now served in nine restaurants and bakeries in the coastal region. Coffee lovers can find Swell Joe at the new Matt's Fish Camp in Lewes and at Paradise Grill in Long Neck.

Rehoboth Beach-based SoDel Concepts has been serving Swell Joe at Fish On in Lewes for a year and a half; so when the company announced the impending opening of Matt's Fish Camp in Lewes less than a mile from Swell Joe, it seemed like a perfect fit. "There was no question about it," said Jack Temple, manager at the new Matt's Fish Camp, "We're all about locally sourced fresh food coupled with a friendly, inviting vibe – so for us, serving locally roasted coffee from a super friendly, small business just down the street is what we're all about."

Temple, a former barista and restaurant manager, moved to coastal Delaware last November to join the SoDel Concepts team, and while undergoing management training at SoDel's Fish On restaurant, Temple recalls the day he realized that Fish On serves what he affectionately dubbed "a legit cup of coffee" – defined by Temple as "small batch beans roasted just days before being served, versus pre-bagged mass market grinds." Temple met with Swell Joe's team to sample all of the different roasts before landing on BLUE KAI, an Ethiopian roast distinguished by berry undertones that occur naturally during the roasting process.

Further south, in the Pot-Nets community in Long Neck, sits Paradise Grill, a hidden gem known for its tiki bars, casual dining, live music and island-like setting. With the recent inclusion of a Saturday and Sunday morning brunch at this unique 800-seat restaurant, Paradise Grill's Al Tortella and Kody Arnold knew that a good cup of joe would be essential to the overall breakfast experience. A few meetings and coffee tastings later, the team at Paradise Grill is proud to partner with Swell Joe to offer diners a new and exclusive roast, PARADISE SUNRISE, a Kenyan/Guatemalan blend.

Swell Joe is the brainchild of Dave Vitella, founder of Surf Bagel, and Cape teacher/coach Drew Johnson, who are surfing buddies. Swell Joe's roastery is located two doors down from Surf Bagel, off routes 1 and 9. In addition to the newest places serving Swell Joe, coffee lovers can also find Swell Joe at Surf Bagel, The Backyard Milton, Fish On/Lewes, Baked in Dewey, A Latte Soul in Milford, Bad Hair Day in Rehoboth and Henlopen Acres Beach Club.
