More than 400 volunteers along with 150 churches and nonprofit groups took part in Mountaire’s annual Thanksgiving for Thousands program Nov. 22 at the company’s Selbyville processing plant. The company has hosted the event for more than 30 years to help with food security during the holidays.
As a company, Mountaire packed 42,500 boxes, with 15,250 handled in Selbyville. Another event was held at the company’s location in Lumber Bridge, N.C. Volunteers formed assembly lines to pack the boxes, which included a roaster chicken, stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams, assorted canned vegetables, gravy and brownie mix. Meal boxes are distributed to those in need through community partners.
