Nancy Cullen Feichtl, retired educator
Dr. Nancy Feichtl, 79, of Rehoboth Beach, died of heart failure Monday, Nov. 3, 2025. She was born in Maryland and moved to Dagsboro at the age of 10.
She began her teaching career as an English teacher in Indian River School District. She then became principal of Woodbridge Basic School in Bridgeville, leaving the district in 1983 to become principal of Richard A. Shields Elementary in Lewes. She later served as director of instruction in Cape Henlopen School District until 1997, at which time she became headmistress of The Jefferson School in Georgetown.
Dr. Feichtl authored the charter for the Sussex Academy of Arts and Sciences in Georgetown, where she served as director for the first four years of its operation. Throughout those years, she taught courses for many neighboring universities.
After retiring, she was active in several singing groups, taught courses for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, served on several boards, and was an activist with Citizens for Clean Power. Her final effort was to launch ITN Southern Delaware, a transportation cooperative for seniors and visually impaired adults.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Joseph J. Feichtl; her son, Shawn T. Cullen, his wife Ann, and their two children Tucker and Chloe of Petaluma, Calif.; her daughter, Michele Sosnoski, and her two sons Ryan and Tyler of Millsboro; and her sister, Dr. Linda Parker of Salisbury, Md. She was predeceased by her wonderful parents, Marvin and Aline Gibbons of Dagsboro.
There will be no services at the request of the deceased; her body will be donated to medical research.
