I want to bring to people's attention that the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association is currently running webinars and other programs in support of the Federal Health Benefits Open Season. The open season closes Monday, Dec. 8, and we do not want people to be confused between Medicare Open Season and Federal Benefits Open Season. There is too much misinformation.
NARFE Delaware has five chapters and service officers who can assist federal employees, active and retired, as well as survivors and others collecting a federal pension, on benefit issues. To find out more, one can go to NARFE.org or call 844-NARFE-NOW.
Delaware Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro also runs programs for Medicare recipients.
These open seasons run slightly differently, but both NARFE and the commissioner are there to assist people. Too many bad actors look to get hold of your medical dollars. Please be informed before you make changes.
I also highlight NARFE is the advocate for the federal workforce, and many people take federal employees for granted, though we impact many through food inspections, safety on the roads, postal services, national parks and more.
Though the shutdown is over for now, federal employees and retirees are still at risk, and many neighbors and friends could be impacted. The current funding stream will expire again Jan. 20, 2026.
I ask all to value federal, state, local and municipal employees. We are working for the Delaware public and have taken an oath of service.
This holiday season, please be kind to the public-sector workforce.
