National Vietnam War Veterans Day observed in Georgetown

April 8, 2024

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1105 held a poignant ceremony on March 29, honoring the brave service and sacrifices of area veterans. The event, held at the Vietnam Veterans memorial in Georgetown, drew a large crowd of community members, veterans and their families. With somber reverence, attendees paid tribute to those who served in Vietnam, recognizing their unwavering commitment to duty and their enduring legacy of valor. The ceremony included speeches commemorating the resilience and bravery of veterans, as well as moments of reflection and gratitude for their sacrifices.

The ceremony also provided an opportunity for veterans to connect with one another and share their experiences. Amid the solemn atmosphere, there were also moments of camaraderie and support as veterans swapped stories and memories. For many, the ceremony offered a chance to heal from the wounds of war and to find solace in the company of those who understand their journey. As the community rallied around its veterans, the event underscored the importance of honoring their service not just on special occasions, but every day.

In 2017, Congress passed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act, which established March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The holiday is also known as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.
