June 10, 2025

A plan to renovate a house for use as a field office for The Nature Conservancy was approved June 4 by the Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission.

The commission voted 4-0 to approve the conditional use for the project at the McCabe Nature Preserve on Round Pole Bridge Road east of Milton.

Jon Horner, an attorney for Schell Brothers and Ocean Atlantic Companies, presented the project to the commission at its May 21 meeting.

Schell Brothers and Ocean Atlantic are helping with the project design and contributing up to $100,000, which is expected to cover the cost of construction, Horner said June 9.

Natasha Whetzel, Delaware stewardship program manager for the conservancy, said at the May meeting that two staff members will work from the house when the project is finished.
