Maryland-based Pure Family Fitness is the new owner of RISE Fitness + Adventure outside Rehoboth Beach.

During an interview Sept. 23, Pure Family Fitness owner Nick Taghipour said his company took over ownership in mid-July. They have a plan to expand the gym’s offerings by utilizing 7,000 square feet of unused second-floor office space; the existing gym is 25,000 square feet.

“This is already a great gym. We’re going to improve it. Take it to the next level,” said Taghipour.

Changes will include rearranging the weights to expand lifting space; expanding locker rooms; offering cycling classes, hot yoga classes, child care; and bringing in a restaurant and café. Customers come in, get a good workout and then they’re hungry, Taghipour said. The goal is to make this a one-stop shop, he said.

RISE will join Pure Family Fitness’ growing portfolio of gyms. The company already owns and operates facilities in Salisbury and Ocean City, Md., and Seaford, Millsboro and Bethany Beach in Delaware. Taghipour gets his love for gym culture naturally – his dad competed as a professional bodybuilder, and has owned and operated gyms his whole life.

Taghipour said as the transition from one ownership group to another continues, the plan is to continue to cater to members. There won’t be any price changes, he said, adding, if anything, the prices will go down.

Taghipour has also hired Taylor Domann as a full-time dietitian for RISE, which will be a first in the Pure Family Fitness company.

Given all the new options, Taghipour said it will be important for customers to be able to have as much access to the gym as possible, which is why plans also call for increased hours. The goal is 4 a.m. to midnight, during the week, and 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., on the weekends, he said.

One thing not changing is the gym’s Parkinson’s education and support group. The work that’s done with that program really does make lives better, said Taghipour.
