New troopers join Troop 7
Six new troopers are now serving at the Delaware State Police Troop 7 barracks.
Trooper Dustin Dukes, who graduated from Laurel High School, holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice administration from Delaware Technical & Community College and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Wilmington University. Prior to joining the state police he served as a seasonal officer in Dewey Beach. In his teen years he took part in several state police youth programs.
Dukes, who is a mentor in the Laurel Kids Connection program, said, “The law enforcement profession is pivotal in maintaining the overall safety of the community I serve. Being a police officer is not just about arresting criminals for committing criminal acts; it is being passionate about the community. It is a continuing effort to ensure the overall lifestyle in Delaware is safe and comforting for all the residents and tourists.”
Trooper S. Joseph, who graduated from the Delaware State Police Academy in 2009, holds a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from the University of Delaware. “I feel self-fulfillment from assisting the public and hope to contribute positively to the community,” she said of her appointment to Troop 7.
Trooper Nicole Rallo was a member of Joseph’s police academy class and holds a bachelor of science degree in psychology and a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice, both from the University of Delaware. Prior to joining the state police, she served as a telecommunication specialist at RECOM, the emergency dispatch center in New Castle County. “I find it an honor to serve the public, and I know I can sleep at night, having the possibility of helping or changing one person’s life,” said Rallo of her decision to become a state trooper.
Tfc. Jason Serratore is a graduate of Del Tech who served at Folcroft Police Department in Pennsylvania prior to joining the Delaware State Police. “Police work is job security,” said Serratore. “It changes every day, and people will always need help.”
Trooper Bryon Haupt earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Albright College in Reading, Pa. Prior to joining the state police, he worked at KidsPeace, where he counseled children in crisis. He also served as a mental-health counselor and as a varsity football coach in Pennsylvania. His decision to shift careers to police work was based on his ability to continue working in a capacity that enables him to help people.
“I believe police work is important to help ensure the safety of people who live in the state of Delaware or who may be visiting Delaware,” said Haupt. “My philosophy of public service is to give 100 percent effort to ensure the safety of others while treating people the way I would want to be treated.”
Trooper Gene Miller served as a Wilmington Police Department officer for seven years prior to being hired by the state police.
Trooper Brock Dean, a Sussex County native, completed his field training at Troop 2 in Bear and was then assigned to Troop 7. He holds a bachelor of science degree in exercise science from Wesley College.
