New voting machine demonstration coming to Sussex Jan. 27

Wayne Osborn, senior application support specialist, Department of Elections, Sussex County, will be demonstrating all of the new aspects of the new 2020 voting machines which include the system feature of an electronic tough screen, printed ballot before vote is cast, a more secure voting method and is user friendly for those with disabilities.

This demonstration will take place at the South Coastal Library, 43 Kent Ave., Bethany Beach, hosted by the 38th District Republican Club, PAC Monday, Jan. 27, at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to this free event.  

All attendees will have the opportunity to view, ask questions and have a hands-on experience with the major upgraded machines. According to Sussex County Elections Director,Kenneth McDowell, “We upgraded machines that were nearly 20 years old. We’re happy to have them. The implementation is being done statewide.”  

Other officials add that the machines will offer more effective security. These demonstrations will help to ease any concerns voters may have regarding how their votes will be cast in 2020.
