Lewes Canalfront Park concerts, movies canceled

The Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park have canceled this year’s concerts, movies and play out of an abundance of caution following the recent spike of COVID-19 cases in the Cape Region. The announcement came after the deadline for the group’s advertisement on page 84. 

Lewes City Hall closed July 3

Lewes City Hall will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m., Monday, July 6, continuing in a limited capacity due to COVID-19. For more information, call city hall at 302-645-7777.

Fat Daddy’s fireworks show still a go

Fireworks are still scheduled to take place on the grounds of Fat Daddy’s BBQ along Route 404 between Georgetown and Bridgeville. It will be the only fireworks show in Sussex County. Restaurant owners Brenda and Jeff Frey say the July 4th event will start at 7 p.m. with food vendors and music by Mike Hines. The Brothers Pyro have been hired to put on the show on the 32-acre Whitefield Farm the couple purchased to stage special events. Donations by check can be mailed to Whitefield Farms, 13203 Seashore Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.
Shows in Laurel, Lewes and Rehoboth Beach were canceled, and a highly publicized show in Dewey Beach was ordered shut down by state officials.

Sussex County Council not meeting July 7

Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, July 7. The next regularly scheduled meeting is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 14.

Rehoboth Beach City Hall closed July 3

In observance of Independence Day, Rehoboth Beach City Hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave., will be closed Friday, July 3. Due to COVID-19, the city’s annual fireworks show has been canceled.

Henlopen Acres Town Hall closed July 3

In observance of Independence Day, Henlopen Acres Town Hall, 104 Tidewaters, will be closed Friday, July 3. For more information call 302-227-6411.

Rehoboth commissioner workshop July 6

Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled an online workshop for 9 a.m., Monday, June 6. Under old business, the agenda calls for continued discussion on gross floor area. Under new business, the agenda calls for discussions on a change order to the contract for Phase II of the wastewater treatment facility upgrades and the possibility of making Felton Street a one-way street heading south.
Members of the public will be allowed to participate in the special meeting, but with limited access. Those who wish to speak will be required to preregister with Ann Womack, city secretary, at awomack@cityofrehoboth.com at least two full business days prior to the meeting. Citizen comment will be administered by a moderator. Speaking is not allowed until called upon. Members of the public can also submit comments electronically to Womack. Lewes historic preservation to meet

The Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission will meet virtually at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 7. The group will consider a request to convert the existing home at 102 Second St. between 2nd Street Tavern and Jerry’s Seafood into a real estate office with a residential unit above. Major changes include the construction of new porches, side and rear additions, additional dormers and expansion of existing dormers. The commission will also consider a request for an addition and new patio at 115 Beebe Ave., and a request to build a two-story addition at 122 Madison Ave. More information and a link to the meeting can be found at www.lewes.civicweb.net.

Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a virtual public hearing at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, regarding the city’s request to rezone city-owned property on Milford Avenue from R-3 to open space. A link to the meeting can be found at www.lewes.civicweb.net
