Rehoboth BoA meeting set Sept. 23
The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment has scheduled a meeting for 5 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for an appeal of the building inspector’s interpretation of the definition for gross floor area, and how it relates to the calculation of the floor-to-area ratio. The property is at 19 Baltimore Ave., in the C-1 Commercial District. Attorney Vincent G. Robertson requested the appeal on behalf of Gene Lankford of Lankford Properties II LLC, owner of the property.

Rehoboth Bandstand committee to meet Sept. 23
The Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, convention hall and special events committee has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 23, in the commissioners room of city hall. Sussex County Council changes meeting time on Sept. 24
Sussex County Council has changed the time of its next meeting. Council will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda is a presentation by the League of Women Voters of Sussex County. See a complete agenda at www.sussexcountyde.gov. Meetings are broadcast live on the county website.

Milton streets committee to meet Sept. 24
Milton Streets, Sidewalks and Parks Committee will meet at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Milton library to discuss two recommendations for street changes. The committee will discuss recommending to town council to designate Reed Street as a one-way street and to allow no parking on one side of Mill Street between Chestnut and Walnut streets. The committee will discuss memorial banners for veterans and find volunteers to look at street sign replacement.

Milton board meeting cancelled
Milton Board of Adjustment has cancelled its Tuesday, Sept. 24 meeting due to no agenda items. The board’s next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Rehoboth law oversight committee to meet Sept. 25
The Rehoboth Beach Law Oversight Committee has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for an overall review of proposed changes to the city’s tree code. Sussex Republican Women to meet Sept. 25
The Sussex County Republican Women’s Club will hold its next meeting Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Sussex County Association of Realtors Building, 23407 Park Ave., Georgetown, at 6 p.m. Jane Brady will be the featured speaker and will brief attendees on her agenda as chairwoman of Delaware’s Republican Party. Brady is a former Superior Court judge and atorney general for the State of Delaware.

The Rehoboth Beach Parking Advisory Committee has scheduled a meeting for 9 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a discussion on parking-related matters. Libraries closing for training on Sept. 26
Most public libraries in Sussex County will be closed Thursday, Sept. 26, for the staff development day.
Staff from the 16 public libraries will meet at the University of Delaware’s Virden Center in Lewes for the daylong conference to study current trends and share expertise. This year’s session includes nationally recognized reading experience experts and book art professionals.

The Sussex County Department of Libraries provides continuing education and professional staff development for the county government’s five libraries, its mobile library and 11 independent libraries. Libraries will reopen at their regularly scheduled times on Friday, Sept. 27.

Savannah Road project starting Sept. 30
Delaware Department of Transportation contractor Grassbusters Landscaping Co. will begin the Savannah Road pedestrian and bicycle improvements project Monday, Sept. 30. Temporary lane closures will occur from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. The project is anticipated to be complete by mid-December, pending weather.

The work consists of installation of a dedicated bike lane and narrowing of vehicular lane widths, pedestrian improvements at the intersection of Savannah Road and American Legion Road, and paving on American Legion Road.

Minos Conaway workshop rescheduled
The Delaware Department of Transportation is seeking public input for the proposed Route 1-Minos Conaway grade-separated intersection project, which is in the preliminary design phase. Due to a conflict at the high school, the workshop has been rescheduled to 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, at Beacon Middle School, 19483 John J. Williams Highway, Lewes.

DelDOT officials said the purpose of the project is to maintain capacity of the Route 1 corridor and improve safety at the unsignalized intersection of Route 1 and Minos Conaway Road, while improving mobility and access for local traffic.
Attendees will have the opportunity to review display maps with the proposed alternative and provide comments.
Project team members will also be in attendance to answer questions.

Comments can be submitted at the workshop, via the DelDOT website, or written comments can be sent to DelDOT Community Relations, PO Box 778, Dover, DE 19903. The comment deadline is Friday, Nov. 1.

Sussex council awards nonprofit grants
Sussex County Council awarded the following councilmanic grants during its Sept. 17 meeting: $750 to Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Seaford for its community food pantry; $1,000 to Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce for its Fire & Ice Festival; and $750 to Sussex Central High School Future Farmers of America for convention and competition expenses.
