Special Rehoboth meeting set Oct. 7

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting virtually at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7. The agenda calls for a strategy session and an executive session for the purpose of receiving legal advice regarding pending and potential litigation involving Ocean Bay Mart, Knights of Columbus and Freedom of Information Act issues related to Clear Space Theatre Company. Members of the public wishing to speak must preregister with City Secretary Ann Womack at least two days prior to the meeting by emailing awomack@cityofrehoboth.com. Rehoboth advisory tree committee meets Oct. 9

The Rehoboth Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Trees will meet virtually at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 9. The agenda calls for a discussion on the committee’s mission and annual priorities.

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission will meet virtually at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9.

The agenda calls for an update on the comprehensive development plan, a review of bylaws, election of officers, and a discussion on underground parking.

Lewes historic preservation to meet

The Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission will meet virtually at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6. The group will consider the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church expansion and renovation project as well as a request for a one-story addition at 616 Kings Highway. Lewes floodplain subcommittee to meet

Lewes wetland buffer public hearing Oct. 8

Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a virtual public hearing at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, to gather comments on a proposed wetland buffer. The proposed ordinance and a link to the meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net

Cape school  board meets Oct. 8

The Cape Henlopen school board will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, at H.O. Brittingham Elementary. The board will take possible action on a CHEA memorandum of understanding, administrative contracts, the 2020-21 district calendar and several board policies. Elementary school enrollment areas will be discussed.

Dewey commissioners meet Oct. 9

Dewey Beach commissioners will hold a virtual monthly meeting at 12 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9. Council will possibly take action on a resolution regarding telephone pole placement and 5G infrastructure network, to approve repair of the Lifesaving Station roof and determine which funds to use for the repair, and on a resolution to adopt the Sussex County Hazard Mitigation plan. Dewey planners hold public hearing Oct. 12

The Dewey Beach Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a virtual public hearing and meeting at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12.

A public hearing will be held on a draft ordinance regarding floor area ratios and changes to use square footages instead of floor area ratios for construction permitting for new construction and renovations, setbacks and other code issues. Members may possibly vote to recommend a draft ordinance to commissioners. A link to the meeting is available at townofdeweybeach.com.

Free stormwater webinar set Oct. 8

The public is invited to attend a free stormwater webinar 10 a.m.- noon, Thursday, Oct. 8 – a live question-and-answer session with tips on stormwater facility winterization.

This is the final event of a four-part series presented by the Sussex Conservation District, University of Delaware Cooperative Extension and Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.

“We encourage communities and property owners to become informed so they can identify problems early, before they become costly to repair,” said Jessica Watson, sediment and stormwater program manager at the conservation district.

SDARJ to discuss Christianity and racism

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice will host an online discussion on Christianity and Racism at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13.

A diverse panel of local clergy will discuss the interface of Christianity and structural racism.

The panel includes the Rev. Marjorie Belmont-Burns from the Lewes United Methodist Charge (Faith and Israel United Methodist Churches), the Rev. Dania Griffin from Antioch African Methodist Episcopal Church in Frankford, the Rev. Vicki Gordy-Stith from Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth, and the Rev. Mark Harris from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes. The Rev. Paula Maiorano of the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will moderate the discussion.

Inland Bays committee meeting Oct. 15

The Delaware Center for the Inland Bays invites the public to attend its virtual Citizens Advisory Committee Citizen’s Café at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, via Zoom.

The event will focus on the importance of restoring the Inland Bays watershed, and addressing years of nutrient pollution and habitat loss that continue to challenge the watershed. 

Guest speaker Brian Trader, deputy executive director and director of horticulture at Delaware Botanic Gardens, will highlight a new living shoreline project in partnership with the CIB.

Dr. Marianne Walch, science and restoration coordinator at the center, will share updates on forest restoration efforts in the Inland Bays watershed.

The event will take place virtually via Zoom. Preregistration is required; see details at inlandbays.org/about/committees/citizens-advisor.
