Lewes-Georgetown Trail closed Oct. 8
Herbicide application will require closure of the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail from Cool Spring Road to Savannah Road from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7. The rain date is Friday, Oct. 8. The Delaware Department of Transportation and its contractor apply herbicides that are registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for vegetation control purposes. The EPA has determined through its testing and review process that when these herbicides are applied according to the label instructions, their application poses no unreasonable risks to human health, wildlife, or the environment.
Dewey investment committee to meet
The Dewey Beach Investment Committee will meet at 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. The town manager will give a presentation on financial needs for the remainder of 2021, planning for 2022 and discussion of COVID-19 budget impact. Winter wheat production down
In its Sept. 30 summary report of small in grains in Delaware, the U.S Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service estimated winter wheat production in Delaware at 2.45 million bushels, down 39 percent from the 2020 total of 4.02 million bushels. This information is according to Shareefah Williams, state statistician of the Delaware Field Office for the USDA.
According to the report, the area harvested for grain totaled 35,000 acres, down 36 percent from 2020. The average yield per acre was estimated at 70 bushels per harvested acre, down 3 bushels from the previous year.
Barley production was estimated at 1.05 million bushels, down 17 percent from the 2020 total of 1.26 million bushels. The average yield, at 75 bushels per acre, was down 9 bushels from the previous year. Area harvested for barley totaled 14 thousand acres, down 7 percent from 2020.
Acres commissioner meeting Oct. 8
Henlopen Acres commissioners have scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 8. The meeting will be conducted in town hall, 104 Tidewaters.
The agenda calls for a public hearing and possible vote on changes to zoning code definitions – building setback line, driveway, family, fence, floor area ratio, group rental, lot area, nonprofit organization, parking lot, swimming pool, unobstructed and zoning certificate.

Rehoboth Trees & Green group to meet
Rehoboth’s Trees & Green Infrastructure Committee has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 8. The meeting will be conducted virtually, with an anchor location at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.
The agenda calls for continued discussion on mapping the trees planted for the city’s Commemorative Tree Program and the input needed from the committee on the city’s streetscape project for Wilmington and Baltimore avenues.

The Lewes Mitigation Planning Team will meet at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6, at city hall and via Zoom. The group will discuss phragmites control, NIMS training, ICS training, an update on RASCL and other items.

Lewes historic preservation to meet
The Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, at city hall and via Zoom.
The group will consider a request from Coastal Cottage Renovations for the removal of a left-rear portion of the home at 151 Kings Highway and the construction of a two-story addition, screened porch and an accessory structure.
