Fisher’s Cove developer files third lawsuit against Lewes

The attorneys for Fisher’s Cove developer Burke & Rutecki LLC have filed a third lawsuit against the City of Lewes. The latest lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court Dec. 7 by Shawn Tucker of law firm Barnes & Thornburg LLP.

Burke & Rutecki first submitted a major subdivision application in September 2018, seeking 18 single-family home lots on an 11.08-acre parcel off Rodney Avenue. The property is located in the R-2, low-density residential, zoning district.

After more than three years, the project was denied preliminary consent by Lewes Mayor and City Council in October.

The developer alleges the city violated protections guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution through its actions during the preliminary consent review process.

Apply now for specific interest grants

Delaware nonprofits are invited to apply now for the Delaware Community Foundation’s Specific Interest Grants. The deadline is 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 6.

A very limited number of specific interest grants is available.

These grants are awarded from funds created at the DCF by donors for very specific purposes.  An independent committee, formed of community leaders who are knowledgeable in these subject areas, selects grant recipients within the parameters established by donors.  Grant applications are being accepted for programs to support: small grants for art, fulfillment of terminally ill children’s wishes, and animals and animal welfare.

Applicants will be notified of decisions in the spring. For more information, go to delcf.org/grants.
