Lewes Board of Public Works meets Feb. 22
The Lewes Board of Public Works will meet in person and via Zoom at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22. The group will discuss the impact fee for Lewes Brewing Company, the 2022-23 operations and maintenance budget, the 2022-27 capital budget and proposed rate adjustments. Lewes resiliency group meets Feb. 22
The Lewes Executive Committee on Resiliency will meet at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, to hear a presentation from guest speakers Matthew Anderson, resiliency and sustainability manager, and Keith Kleiman, assistant finance director for management, budget and compliance, of Coral Gables, Fla., regarding the Coral Gables Resiliency Fund. Lewes public art group meets Feb. 23
The Lewes Public Art Committee will meet in person and via Zoom at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23. The group will discuss 2022 exhibitions, a 2023 piece and community art projects. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net.
DelDOT workshop on Kings Highway Feb. 23
The Delaware Department of Transportation has scheduled a virtual public workshop from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23, on proposed widening and intersection improvements along Kings Highway in Lewes to improve traffic operation and add additional capacity to accommodate future growth.

Intersection improvements are proposed at the Kings Highway intersections with Dartmouth Drive, Clay Road, Gills Neck Road and Freeman Highway, as well as adding a new intersection between Gills Neck Road and Freeman Highway. The limits of the project are from Route 1 to Freeman Highway. Construction is planned for 2026 through 2028.
The purpose of the workshop is to present the concept design and provide a design schedule.
Display plans and project information will be provided for public review and comment. Attendees will also have the option to download materials from the project website.
A presentation will begin at 4 p.m. followed by a live question-and-answer session with project team members. A recording of the workshop will be available on the website following the workshop.

Cape school board meets Feb. 24
The Cape Henlopen school board will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24 at Love Creek Elementary. The board will possibly vote on policies on homework, and assessment and reporting of student progress, and on major capital project change orders. Rehoboth streets group meets Feb. 24
The Rehoboth Beach Streets and Transportation Committee will meet virtually at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24. The agenda calls for continued discussion on crosswalks, sharrows and new curbing at the intersection of Grove Street and Columbia Avenue, as well as the city’s abandoned vehicle ordinance and the impact on traffic flow of delivery vehicles unloading.

Rehoboth environment group meeting Feb. 24
The Rehoboth Beach Environment Committee will meet virtually at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 24. The agenda calls for discussions on the city’s sustainable climate action plan, the no-straws initiative and work being done on the city’s wireless technology ordinance, as well as noise pollution related to leaf blowers and other landscaping equipment.

DelDOT looking to improve Route 24
Delaware Department of Transportation has submitted an application to upgrade the existing spillway, install a slide gate, repair the culvert and rehabilitate the roadway embankments along Route 24 at Burton Pond.
According to the a Feb. 16 notice published by the state’s Wetlands and Subaqueous Lands Section, the proposed construction will result in 7,553 square feet of temporary subaqueous lands impacts; 58,810 square feet of permanent subaqueous lands impacts; 1,746 square feet of temporary state-regulated wetland impacts; and 1,252 square feet of permanent state-regulated wetland impacts in and adjacent to the pond.
A public hearing on the application will not be held unless Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Shawn Garvin determines that one is in the public interest, or if a written meritorious objection is received within 20 days from the Feb. 16 notice. Comments on the project are due by Tuesday, March 8.
