Beebe sets advance healthcare directive workshops April 16-17

The Beebe Healthcare Palliative Care team will present free workshops on advance healthcare directives at 9 a.m., and 12 and 3 p.m., Thursday, April 16, at Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes; and at 9 and 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 17, at South Coastal Library, 43 Kent Ave., Bethany Beach.

An advance healthcare directive is a legally recognized set of instructions from a patient to their medical providers. It identifies the individual the patient has authorized to make decisions about their healthcare choices if they are unable to do so themselves. The directive can also give specific directions about care choices the patient wants at the end of life. The document includes a series of forms and is generally easy to complete. Team members will be onsite to offer support and assist with completion of advance directives at the conclusion of each presentation.

Bayhealth celebrates new physician resident matches

Bayhealth will welcome 33 new physician residents to begin training across Sussex and Kent counties this July, expanding access to care for the community. Matched through the National Match Day process March 20, the incoming residents will join Bayhealth’s four graduate medical education programs: emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine and general surgery. These doctors will train in both hospital and community-based settings, caring for local patients while continuing their medical education and helping meet the growing healthcare needs of local families.

Since launching in 2019, Bayhealth’s residency programs have become an important part of patient care. Over the past three years alone, residents have helped care for nearly 39,000 patients, expanding appointment availability, supporting care teams and improving access to services.

Many of the new residents come from regional partner schools, including Drexel University and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, for which Bayhealth serves as a core clinical campus.
