Rehoboth’s task force meeting set June 16

Rehoboth Beach’s Wilmington/Baltimore Avenue Streetscape Task Force will hold a virtual meeting at 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 16. The agenda calls for continued discussion on the draft layout prepared by the city’s contractor, with a possible vote on recommendations. Special Rehoboth meeting set June 18

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting at 1 p.m., Friday, June 18, in person in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave., as well as livestreamed. The commissioners will act as the board of appeals to hear and potentially decide appeals taken from the quarterly supplemental assessment list. Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a regular meeting at 2 p.m., Friday, June 18, in person in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave., as well as livestreamed. 

The agenda calls for a permit of compliance hearing for Ava’s Pizzeria and Wine Bar, 29 Baltimore Ave., and a possible vote to approve contracts for water taxi and kayak services for the new canal dock. Fishers Cove back before Lewes June 16

Lewes Planning Commission will meet virtually at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 16. A revised plan for the Fishers Cove major subdivision is back before planners. 

According to the agenda item, the commissioners will review the process, receive a presentation and then schedule a public hearing for the development, which is planned to include 18 single-family home lots off Rodney Avenue near the University of Delaware campus. Lewes African American Heritage Commission to meet

The Lewes African American Heritage Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 17. The group will receive updates on a historic marker and volunteer research, and remember Juneteenth with a presentation from the Rev. Lewes council meets June 18

Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 10 a.m., Friday, June 18. They will begin the meeting with an executive session. After returning to public session, the group will consider proposed revisions to the COVID-19 policy approved March 13, 2020. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net.

Baylis Estates amendment approved

At its June 10 meeting, Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission granted preliminary approval to amend plans for Phase 2 of Baylis Estates along Mt. Joy Road near Long Neck. On the recommendation of Commissioner Bruce Mears, 14 additional lots were added to the phase for a total of 51 single-family home lots. Phase 1, with 99 lots, is under construction.

Hopkins venue gets Sussex P&Z nod

Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended approval of a conditional-use application filed by Covered Bridge Inn LLC and Hopkins Homestead LLC for an events venue on the south side of Fisher Road near Lewes. 

The venue, located on 5 acres of a 99-acre family farm, includes a facility for honey extraction and a 2,100-square-foot, small-events site for one-day rentals. The proposal is an extension of a larger wedding and events venue on the Hopkins farm.

Making a motion for approval, Commissioner Kim Hoey Stevenson called the proposed venue an “innovative agritourism destination.” She noted that the Delaware Agricultural Lands Preservation Foundation has designated the venue as an approved use on preserved land.

Sussex County Council’s public hearing on the application is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.

Dewey Beach marketing committee meets June 17

The Dewey Beach marketing committee will hold a virtual meeting at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, June 17. Members will possibly vote on ideas to secure donations for a town beautification project. The full agenda and link to the meeting are available at townofdeweybeach.com.
