Dewey planning commission to meet

The Dewey Beach Planning & Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing and meeting at 5 p.m., Thursday, June 27, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Public hearings and possible votes will be held regarding a proposed expansion of a conditional use for Nalu; potential changes to green space, downspout and runoff water requirements; and a potential increase in the town freeboard requirements.

Dewey commissioners meet June 21

Dewey Beach commissioners will hold their monthly meeting and a workshop at 3 p.m., Friday, June 21, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. 

Commissioners will possibly vote to combine the investment and budget & finance committees into a single finance committee, and to request the infrastructure committee consider an amendment to establish a cap for the infrastructure fund. 

Other possible votes include amending the previously adopted effective date for rezoning the property at 24 Houston St., and requesting the planning and zoning commission provide recommendations on green space requirements, and downspout and runoff water requirements. 

Following the regular meeting, commissioners will hold a workshop to discuss items referred by the charter and code review committee, including the existing requirement that at least two commissioners must be town residents; a possible expansion of voting rights to include LLCs, LLPs and corporations; the role of commissioners in approving the town budget and the town manager’s ability to manage to aggregate number(s) rather than specific line-item details of the approved budget; increasing the maximum penalty that may be levied by the alderman from $1,000 to $3,000, or other appropriate maximum; increasing the current limit of $3,000,000 for the town’s indebtedness; amending the prohibition on gambling to allow any state-authorized lottery ticket sales; and removing specific rates for accommodations and lodging taxes and replacing with a maximum rate for each.

Rehoboth meeting slated June 21

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will meet at 2 p.m., Friday, June 21, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. 

The agenda calls for a public hearing on a permit of compliance for Baja Bob’s, 101 S. Boardwalk, a possible vote on changing code related to the wording of Deauville Beach and the possible setting of the tax rate.

Shore Dems to host Harris June 19

The Shore Democrats will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday June 19, at Bear Trap Dunes, 7 Clubhouse Drive, Ocean View. The featured speaker after lunch will be Rep. Kerri Evelyn Harris, D-Dover.

Harris represents Delaware’s 32nd District, which includes southeast Dover, northeast Magnolia, and parts of the bay area. She is a mother, veteran and advocate who personally understands the hardships of meeting family needs in the face of systemic obstacles. 

Her primary focuses have been economic development, healthcare reform, environmental justice and legal system reform.

African American panel to meet June 20

The Lewes African American Heritage Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 20, at city hall.

The agenda includes an update on the city’s Juneteenth celebration, which will be held Saturday, June 22.

Beebe career events begin June 19

Beebe Healthcare will host more Coffee and Careers events this summer at area Starbucks locations. Job-seekers can speak with talent acquisition specialists in a variety of clinical and nonclinical areas to learn about job opportunities and benefits, including signing bonuses. Beebe also provides potential candidates with $5 Starbucks gift cards.
