Milton historic commission to meet

Milton Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, at the Milton Public Library.

The commission will discuss Debbie and John Agresti’s request for approval of a fence and consider changes to the town zoning code.

Milton Water Committee to meet

Milton Water Committee will meet at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, at Milton library to discuss the town’s water impact and water usage fees.

The committee will also discuss the progress of ongoing projects, the seven-year capital improvement plan and a backflow prevention policy.

Rehoboth Boardwalk committee to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk and Beach Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m., Monday, July 12, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave., and on the city’s legislative portal.

The agenda calls for continued discussion on cellphone antennas on or near the Boardwalk and the commercialization of the Boardwalk.

Rehoboth candidate forum July 17

The Rehoboth Beach Homeowners’ Association and CAMP Rehoboth will host a candidate forum from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 17.

The slate of candidates for this year’s two-seat race include incumbent Commissioner Richard Byrne, former Commissioner Toni Sharp, planning Commissioner Rachel Macha and first-time candidate Tim Bennett.

The city has agreed to waive meter requirements on the second block of Baltimore Avenue on the morning of the forum. This forum is open to the public, and will be livestreamed and recorded by CAMP Rehoboth.

14th RD Dems to meet July 14

The 14th RD Democratic Party Committee will meet at 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, via Zoom. State Auditor Kathy McGuiness will discuss her new Project: Gray Fox - A Historic Transparency Initiative, which will help Delawareans see and compare how their counties, municipalities and school districts are spending the millions in tax dollars they receive from the $1.9 trillion federal American Rescue Plan Act. Through this project, McGuiness is encouraging every Delaware resident to become a citizen watchdog over these funds. “The First State should be first in transparency and accountability,” she said.

The committee represents Democrats who live in the communities surrounding the south side of Lewes, then south to Dewey Beach and west to Angola. All Democrats are welcome to attend. To receive the Zoom link, RSVP to Cheryl Fruchtman at c.fruchtman@comcast.net.

Lewes Mayor and City Council meets July 12

Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m., Monday, July 12. The group will consider final approval for Lewes Waterfront Preserve, an 89-unit townhouse community along New Road near the Canary Creek bridge. They will also schedule a workshop to discuss and prioritize possible uses of the American Rescue Plan Act funds received by the city. Also on the agenda is discussion about the city’s wetland buffer ordinance, changes to the fee schedule related to fee and bond/escrow requirements for street break permits, and possible action regarding whether the city’s relatively new ordinance to phase out 

certain gas-powered landscaping equipment should include gas-powered power washers. Striping of the Canalfront Park tennis courts for pickleball will also be discussed at the meeting. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net

Lewes Fisher’s Cove public hearing July 13

The Lewes Planning Commission will hold a virtual public hearing at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, regarding Fisher’s Cove, an 18-unit major subdivision planned for 11 acres off Rodney Avenue. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net

Town of Dewey Beach resumes live meetings 

The Town of Dewey Beach will begin transitioning back to in-person meetings in July. Town council and committee meetings will return to the Lifesaving Station on Dagsworthy Avenue starting with the monthly commissioners meeting at 6 p.m., Friday, July 9. While the public is encouraged to attend in person, meetings will continue to be livestreamed. Those who wish to make public comment are asked to attend the scheduled meeting.

Sussex council meeting set July 13

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 13, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. 

Included on the agenda are 1:30 p.m. public hearings on a conditional-use application filed by Delaware Electric Cooperative for a substation on a 9-acre parcel at the southwest corner of Plantation Road and Cedar Grove Road between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach, and a conditional-use application filed by Covered Bridge Inn LLC and Hopkins Henlopen Homestead LLC for an events venue on the south side of Fisher Road near Lewes.

RD20 Democratic Committee to meet

The Delaware 20th Representative District’s Democratic Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 15, via Zoom. 

RD20 Committee member David Mangler, Delaware Department of State community relations director, will discuss the status of key legislation that came before the Delaware General Assembly this year, followed by a Q&A session. 

Any registered Democrat in Delaware is welcome to participate.
