Lewes Mayor and City Council meets Aug. 9

Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a hybrid meeting at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 9, at city hall and via Zoom. The group will consider memorandum of understanding agreements with the Lewes Junction Railroad and Bridge Association and Delaware Department of Transportation for the installation of a railroad display and related railroad garden in the former railroad right of way between Lewes Public Library and the Rollins Community Center. Council will set public hearings for final approval of Olde Town at White’s Pond, and a rezoning request for a small section of Cape Henlopen School District land near Shields Elementary from community facilities educational to general commercial. Also on the agenda for consideration are the development agreement for Lewes Waterfront Preserve, a request from Bay Breeze homeowners association to take over ownership and maintenance of the road serving Bay Breeze and Jefferson Apartments, and a presentation for a request to mark on-street parking for Lewes Beach residents who do not have off-street parking available. Council will discuss a request to operate a bonfire business on Beach 1 and Beach 2, and consider action on amending city code to include fire suppression as a requirement for new residences. Rehoboth to evaluate city manager

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will begin evaluating the performance of City Manager Sharon Lynn during a special meeting Monday, Aug. 9. The agenda calls for an executive session. The meeting is set to begin immediately following a 9 a.m. commissioner workshop the same day.

If needed, tentative dates have been blocked off to continue the evaluation Thursday, Aug. 12, and Tuesday, Aug. 17. A full agenda and meeting materials are accessible at cityofrehoboth.civicweb.net. For more information, call 302-227-6181.

Biden’s weekend plans appear to have changed

In the Aug. 3 issue of the Cape Gazette, it was reported that President Joe Biden would be visiting his home in the Rehoboth Beach area Friday, Aug. 6. That information came from the White House’s week-ahead guidance for the president that was issued Aug. 1. It appears Biden’s plans have changed. The White House hadn’t issued a revised weekend schedule prior to the paper’s deadline, but the Federal Aviation Administration issued a temporary flight restriction notice Aug. 5 for northern Delaware, not southern Delaware. It’s the same restriction issued in the past for when Biden is staying at his Greenville home.

Rehoboth workshop set Aug. 9

Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a workshop for 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 9, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.

It can be watched live on the Rehoboth Beach civicweb portal.

The agenda calls for continued discussions on a new recycling program and a status update on Verizon’s cellphone antennas along the Boardwalk. The agenda also calls for discussions on stormwater management, what the city should do with its COVID relief funds and the status of hiring a city planner. People wishing to speak who will not attend in person must preregister by emailing awomack@cityofrehoboth.com, at least 24 hours prior to the meeting. A full agenda and meeting materials are accessible at cityofrehoboth.civicweb.net. For more information, call 302-227-6181.
