Lewes tree group meeting Aug. 9

The Lewes Planning Commission Tree Ordinance Subcommittee will meet at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9, at City Hall.

Committee members will discuss current tree ordinances and others that could be considered within the city.

No Rehoboth election taking place Aug. 13

As a reminder,  there will be no Rehoboth Beach municipal election Saturday, Aug. 13, because there were only two candidates who filed for the two seats, incumbent Commissioner Edward Chraznowski and first-time Commissioner Francis “Bunky” Markert. The two candidates will be sworn in for three-year terms at the city’s monthly meeting in September. Sitting Commissioner Susan Gay decided not to run for re-election.

Rehoboth green infrastructure committee meets

The Rehoboth Beach Green Infrastructure Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 12, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussions on mapping trees for the city’s Commemorative Tree Program and a tree tour guide map.

14th RD Dems to meet Aug. 10

ACLU of Delaware Executive Director Mike Brickner will speak at the Wednesday, Aug. 10 meeting of Delaware’s 14th Representative District Democratic Committee. He will discuss the ACLU-DE’s ongoing work to promote civil liberties, voting rights and racial justice in Delaware.

The program will begin at 5 p.m. with a Dutch treat dinner at Iron Hill Brewery on Route 1 north of Rehoboth Beach, followed by Brickner’s remarks at 6 p.m. and committee business at 6:30. The 14th RD Democratic Committee represents Democrats who live in the communities surrounding Lewes, south to Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach, and west to Angola.

All registered Democrats are welcome to participate in 14th RD meetings. Those planning to attend the Aug. 10 meeting should RSVP by Aug. 9 by emailing c.fruchtman@comcast.net.

Rehoboth Beach planning commission meeting canceled

For the third straight month, the Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission meeting has been canceled. The city issued a press release Aug. 4 saying the Friday, Aug. 12 meeting was canceled due to a lack of agenda items.
