Reading some of the letters to the editor on issues about the climate, traffic, noise and the overbuilding of Sussex County.
1. On July 29 at the Lewes Beach Dairy Queen, there was a verbal spat on a parking spot. One man stood in the middle of the space and another tried to pull in. Frustration and F-bombs were flying. Nice when you're carrying your 2-year-old granddaughter! I believe the way to stop a lot of this is to raise rates on the public areas on weekends. From Maine to Carolinas. They have the same ocean?
2. Climate change issues. I'm not saying that things aren't different, but how we go about it is the thing. Turbines in the ocean isn't it. How about all of the unusable marshland from Roosevelt Inlet to Milford instead of running ocean life out of the way? That granddaughter I was carrying, I'd love her to see a live whale and dolphins! The water level in Dewey is in the same spot as when I was 9 in 1970. Do the math.
3. Older generation and change. Believe me, it’s hard to see what Sussex County, especially the beach areas, has become. I've been going there since 1970, and it is still a place I want to retire to. I've been fortunate enough to own a home off Old Landing Road for seven years, and I’m very happy. But you watch, a medical center built and a library to be built is great, but unfortunately the county or state fell short on traffic on Airport Road. All you need is a longer right-turn lane on Airport Road and I don't see it as a shortcut to get to Rehoboth. Simple?
I'm sure most of my letter will be scrutinized for various reasons, but that's what makes conversation. But please, no more F-bombs in front of my granddaughter!
