Regarding Dennis Finnerty's letter in the May 5 edition of the Cape Gazette concerning the Old Landing/Warrington Road project: I just wanted to take this opportunity to express my agreement with everything he said.
We have been residents of Estates of Sea Chase since 2004 and have lived here full time since 2008. Our community sits at this intersection and is bordered by Old Landing and Warrington roads. There was a time when Warrington Road was considered a shortcut to Coastal Highway. Although it backs up as folks head to the beach, the four-way stop at this intersection keeps traffic flowing evenly, provided everyone follows the first-in, first-across rule!
I have witnessed development of the area surrounding our community resulting in more traffic on both of these roads. Traffic does tend to back up at peak times of the day, week and season, but traffic manages to flow through the intersection. I cannot remember when there was an accident at this intersection, which leads me to believe the four-way stop does not need changing. Although it has become increasingly more difficult to exit our community onto Old Landing Road because of the traffic, I fail to see how a traffic signal, which will stop traffic for two or three minutes at a time, would make things easier for residents of the area. I am also not convinced a roundabout would be an improvement over the current four-way stop.
My recommendation would be to add right-turn lanes on both roads to help with the flow of traffic. Why fix something that does not appear to be broken?
