Oak Orchard bathing scene from early 1900s

June 19, 2018

Through the early to mid 1900s, Oak Orchard on Indian River was a popular summer resort complete with calm and shallow water beaches and a boardwalk promenade along the River's northern shore. This postcard from the early 1900s shows bathers enjoying the river's sandy bottom and calm waters on a summer day. This postcard started as a black and white photograph that was then hand colored to add a greater dimension of reality.
