Ocean Medical Imaging of Delaware earns accreditation

August 26, 2009

Ocean Medical Imaging of Delaware in Milton has been awarded accreditation in digital mammography as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology.

The American College of Radiology (ACR) awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

“Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women,” said Dr. Jonathan Patterson, board-certified radiologist and former president of the Delaware Radiological Society. “One in eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and the key to survival is early detection. Women age 40 and older should have a screening mammogram every year.”

Ocean Medical Imaging is different from other imaging centers. Patterson owns and operates the facility that was custom designed to make diagnostic imaging a more pleasant and relaxing experience for patients.

Dedicated to women’s health and well being, Ocean Medical Imaging features digital mammography because the images are much clearer and require fewer retakes. Patterson personally meets with each patient after her mammogram to discuss his findings, and if additional images or a breast ultrasound are needed for further review, they can be done in the same visit without the inconvenience and anxiety of a later appointment. It doesn’t matter if the patient has had a mammogram elsewhere; Ocean Medical Imaging will obtain previous exams from other facilities so he can compare them to the current exam images.
