A section of Old Orchard Road near Lewes will close for a week beginning Monday, April 6, as work is completed for an entrance to the Orchard Plaza development.
Charles “CR” McLeod, Delaware Department of Transportation director of community relations, said the closure is not connected to the ongoing work to realign Old Orchard Road at Savannah Road.
Orchard Plaza is a a three-story, 55,000-square-foot medical and professional office complex that was approved by the Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission in 2023. It will be located on Old Orchard Road where the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail crosses.
The closure will be between Atlantic Concrete and Peach Tree Lane, which is where the work will be taking place. Local traffic will still have access onto Old Orchard Road on either side of the closure point. The northbound detour will be Savannah Road to Route 1 north to Nassau Road to New Road, and the southbound detour will be New Road to Nassau Road to Route 1 south to Savannah Road.
