One community is loudest in opposition to Atlantic Fields

January 9, 2026

I took a few minutes the other day to review the concerns being raised about Atlantic Fields. The objections range from traffic and child safety to groundwater issues – and even claims that people from New Jersey will be taking the ferry to visit the shopping center.

I decided to take the research one step further and look into where the opposition was coming from. After a bit of digging, it became clear that the majority of those speaking out live in Four Seasons at Belle Terre, a 55-plus community off Mulberry Knoll Road, directly across from the proposed site.

In fact, of the last 28 letters to the editor expressing concern, 43% came from residents of that single community.

So while it may appear there is widespread opposition, the reality seems to be that a concentrated group simply does not want the shopping center in their front yard. I just wish they would say that.
