One more step before the Super Bowl

January 18, 2018

On Saturday, the Philadelphia Eagles squeaked past the Atlanta Falcons in a tight game by the score of 15-10.

The Eagles defense did a very good job containing Matty "Ice" Ryan and the explosive Falcons offense for the entire game. The Philly "D" saved the team's bacon with a nerve wracking goal line stand at the end of the game.

The Eagles offense did just enough to advance. After a rough first quarter, Eagles quarterback Nick Foles played pretty well.

The Eagles will play the Minnesota Vikings for the NFC spot in the Super Bowl. The Vikings beat the New Orleans Saints on one of the most amazing game ending plays in playoff history. To make it even more dramatic, the whole second half of this game was very fun to watch. The Saints came back from a 17-0 deficit to take the lead twice before losing the game on the Minnesota "Miracle" 61 yard pass play with no time left on the clock.

If the Vikings can beat the Eagles on Sunday, they will make history as the first team to host the Super Bowl at their own stadium. I think the New England Patriots will represent the AFC Conference in the Super Bowl yet again.

The Australian Open tennis tournament has begun. On the woman's side, it seems to be wide open. Serena Williams is not ready to compete yet due to serious complications after the birth of her daughter. Her sister Venus lost in the first round. So we will see who steps up to that challenge.

On the men's side, the usual contenders are still alive but almost no U.S. men. Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are all competing as if they were teenagers. I expect one of them to be in the finals.

Last, but not least. I did not expect the Cape Henlopen boys basketball team to be ranked number one in the state this year, but they are stepping up big time. Keep up the good work guys.
