OperaDelaware to perform in Milford Oct. 14, Nov. 17

October 5, 2023

OperaDelaware will partner with the City of Milford and the historic Causey Mansion for a free pop-up performance at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2 Causey Ave., Milford.

Just one month later, OperaDelaware will return to Milford for the inaugural Holiday Microgala hosted by Benvenuto at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, at 249 NE Front St., Milford.
Benvenuto is a Tuscan-inspired restaurant that brings the Italian countryside to Delaware.

A city that straddles Kent and Sussex counties, Milford holds a rich cultural and artistic presence in Delaware. “It is a hub for arts lovers,” said Kerriann Otaño, OperaDelaware vice president of engagement. “I knew that the very first time I visited Milford, and we’re delighted to bring opera to this community.”

With the Causey Mansion as the idyllic backdrop for a free pop-up opera performance Oct. 14, audience members are invited to bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair, and settle in for an afternoon of art and opera. There will be live landscape painters in the gardens and a cash bar raising money for Milford’s Santa House, a downtown holiday tradition. Free parking is available off-site in all city lots.

At the Nov. 17 Holiday Microgala, OperaDelaware artists Dane Suarez, Emily Margevich and Anastasia Sidorova will present a unique, artist-curated program of operatic highlights and holiday classics. Chef Jesus Giordiany will use the artists’ music as inspiration to create a masterful five-course Italian dinner for 50 lucky guests. The event will kick off with an outdoor cocktail hour (weather permitting), followed by a magical evening that will include the music of Verdi and Puccini as well as iconic holiday classics like “Oh, Holy Night” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” To purchase tickets, go to operade.org/milford-microgala.

“I’m excited the Milford community will have two different opportunities to experience beautiful vocal artists,” said Sara Bluhm, City of Milford economic development and community engagement administrator. “It’s the first, but I’m sure it's not the last!”

OperaDelaware is a company committed to cultivating unique events that are accessible for new and existing audiences. While the Causey Mansion event is free and open to the public, the inaugural Holiday Microgala at Benvenuto will serve as a fundraiser, with tickets at $220 per person for a five-course dinner; intimate, curated performances; red-carpet runway photoshoot; and more.
