Oscar-winning film ‘Belfast’ showing now at Cinema Art Theater

March 30, 2022

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater presents “Belfast,” a semi-autobiographical memoir written and directed by Kenneth Branagh, who recalls his childhood through rose-tinted lenses. The film recently earned the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

“Belfast” depicts a violent, tumultuous time in the late 1960s Northern Ireland, but it does so through the innocent eyes of a smart, cheery 9-year-old boy named Buddy, played by Jude Hill. He must chart a path toward adulthood through a world that has suddenly turned upside down. His stable, loving community, and everything he thought he understood about life have changed. “Belfast” is filmed in black-and-white, with sporadic bursts of glorious color. The cast also includes Caitriona Balfe (“Outlander”), Jamie Dornan and Judi Dench.

Admission is $8 for members and $11 for nonmembers. Customers are encouraged to purchase admission online at rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, admission can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening. For details on screening times and other information, including the upcoming spring film festival event April 18-23, go to rehobothfilm.com or call 302-645-9095.
