Osprey Point resident’s argument is flawed

October 17, 2023

A new resident of Osprey Point recently wrote a letter to the Cape Gazette in which he cites reasons for building an indoor/outdoor restaurant and boat marina at Osprey Point on Arnell Creek. The writer's logic is somewhat disingenuous and self-serving. To propose that building more developments and adding a restaurant and marina to Osprey Point would reduce traffic is absurd. The increased traffic from the restaurant, built not in a commercial area but a residential one, alone would increase traffic significantly. The writer suggests that Sussex County Council should devote itself to more environmental stewardship, but then endorses the building of a restaurant and marina on Arnell Creek, which is a refuge for a large variety of birds and wildlife as well as an abundance of marshes. The very idea of a loud, busy restaurant in a residential neighborhood, with a busy marina, on the small Arnell Creek is against all environmental efforts to preserve what's left of our natural lands and indigenous wildlife. They will destroy the environment on Arnell Creek.
