Our kids deserve the best in public education

July 22, 2025

Delaware taxpayers invest over $1 billion a year in public education, a number that rises each year. Yet this past year, the biggest story in public education in Delaware was that hundreds of public school teachers were found to be working with our kids and doing so with expired licenses. To be clear, more than 450 teachers were found to be in the classrooms daily with our children who should not have been.

Folks, what is wrong with this picture? Why did it take the local media to come out with this story? Why is the Office of the Auditor of Accounts, as opposed to the Delaware Department of Education, taking ownership over this issue? Sadly, why aren’t our local legislators voicing their concern over this serious situation? Their silence is deafening.

Here’s to all of us with kids and grandkids in our Delaware public schools who just want those in positions of leadership and positions of trust to do the right thing. Why is that too much to ask, and who can we turn to to ensure this lapse doesn’t continue? We can do better, and we can do more. Our kids deserve it.
