Our Towns exhibit to open at Gallery One Feb. 26

February 23, 2020

The artists of Gallery One in Ocean View are pleased to announce Our Towns, their next show which will be open to the public Wednesday, Feb. 26, through Tuesday, March 31.

Lewes, Rehoboth, Bethany and Millville share the spotlight in this month’s theme. Gallery One’s local artists hail from several towns in the rural beach area and this month’s paintings reflect those locales, capturing the beauty of the area and preserving vanishing landscapes.

In Jan Moffatt’s acrylic “Millville Chicken Houses,” she depicts the old farm buildings, structures and cornfields she drives past almost every day, knowing one day soon they will not be there.

Laura Hickman’s pastel painting, “Winter Morning, Bethany Beach,” shows the sun rising from the ocean over the Bethany Beach boardwalk. Winter in Delaware beach towns brings beautiful light and fewer people, a view that summer visitors don’t get to appreciate.

Lesley McCaskill’s watercolor painting, “Moored by the Canal,” was painted entirely on site at the University of Delaware in Lewes where the research vessel is used to study the biology and health of the coastal community. The beauty of the day and scene really illustrate Lewes.

Mary Beth Paterson’s oil painting, “Lewes Canal,” reflects the fact that sailboats are quintessential to Lewes in the summertime.

Dale Sheldon’s acrylic painting “Surf Avenue,” is a scene from just north of the mile-long Rehoboth BeachBoardwalk. Surf Avenue runs along the ocean with pine trees and sand lining its edges. Glimpses of the ocean peek through the trees and the sounds of the waves can be imagined.

Always staffed by an artist, Gallery One is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week at 32 Atlantic Ave., Route 26, Ocean View.
