OutKast beats back Bunch of Bosses 28-21 to win flag football championship

December 19, 2011

OutKast defeated Bunch of Bosses 28-21 Dec. 18 in Lewes for their third straight Sussex Y championship and fourth in team history. After the game, all four trophies showed up for the team photo.  A few years ago, a championship trophy disappeared during the game - all part of the league's colorful history.

Jon “J Roc” Ricketts is the emotional, explosive, all-purpose run, throw, catch, kick, play defense steady-talking star for OutKast, while veteran quarterback Rob Moore keeps the wheels on the wagon. The team is crazy deep in athletic talent, from wideouts Cordae Showell and Leroy Mann to running backs Kevin Maull, Jamal Trott and Marquis Lewis. Marcus Elmandorf, who played baseball at Cape, was playing like an all-state defensive back.

OutKast scored first when Jon Ricketts, left-handed not like Vick but like Tebow, hit Leroy Mann with a touchdown pass.

B.O.B. responded, scoring on an open-field lateral from quarterback Kevin Hayes to his brother Kai.  Brian “The Mule” Sentman's kick gave B.O.B. a 7-6 lead.

'We always know we can score as long as there's time on the clock,” Rob Moore said after the game. The quarterback scored a go-ahead touchdown on a run up the middle, then hit Jon Ricketts on a two-point pass to put OutKast in front 14-7.

OutKast went wildcat and Jon Ricketts scored up the middle, then knelt in the end zone and said, ”I just Tebowed them.”

Rob Moore passed to Anthony Williams for two points and a 22-7 OutKast advantage.

A Kevin Hayes running touchdown and a Sentman kick made the score 22-14.

Jon Ricketts scored one more time and so did Kevin Hayes for the final of 28-21 and another championship for OutKast.

“It's all about good sportsmanship; we come out here just to have fun, ” Jon Ricketts said after the game. “It is very competitive, though. The league has a good reputation and we get more teams every year. People are coming from everywhere just because they hear how competitive it is.”

Quarterback Rob Moore, jokingly called "McNabb" by his teammates when he short-arms a pass, and "Cam Newton" when he scores on a run, said, “Without being cocky, we always feel that as long as we know we're getting the ball back we can go down the field and score on anybody. We had a lot of new pieces this year on defense, so a lot of games were closer than they should have been.”
