Paisley Moon Salon and Gallery hosts grand opening in Milton

August 2, 2011

The Google maps picture of 109 Federal St. in Milton still shows rental signs in the windows, but one look at the location these days depicts a fledgling organic beauty salon and art gallery tip-toeing into business.

At Paisley Moon Salon and Gallery, co-owner and Sole Stylist Gretchen Garms said she will be hosting a grand opening celebration Saturday, Aug. 6, for the business she has dreamed of opening on the "upper east side" of Milton since she moved to the hamlet in 2002 with her now-husband, Morgan.

“We’re presenting our business to the community for the grand opening,” Garms said. “The town has been really welcoming so far and excited, I think, to have something new and modern and organic.”

Inside the salon and gallery, art is still being brought in for the opening, but the stylist has a beauty salon in operation with hair, nail and waxing services that are as green and all-natural as possible for quality beauty services, she said.

“We work with all-natural products because they are the best for you,” Garms said, pointing to a row of plants growing near the back of her salon. “We are trying to be as green as we can be. We grow all our own herbs and make all our own scrubs and masks here.”

Rehoboth resident Renee Wright agreed the all-natural product line at Paisley Moon takes advantage of pharmaceutical grade aloe, which she said has done wonders for the overall health of her hair.

“The product line that she uses and sells is the best product line I’ve ever used on my hair,” Wright said. “It’s magic.”

In addition, Garms said she hopes to join the Milton Farmer’s Market and give out samples of the homemade scrubs and masks at Paisley Moon and offer the community a chance to try out the all-natural approach to hair, skin and nail care.

But that’s not all the business has to offer, co-owner Morgan Garms said.

With music from bands like Radiohead and Modest Mouse playing in the background at the salon, the partnership also takes a decidedly alternative approach to the beauty business. Once the gallery is stocked with underground fine art, the dream of Paisley Moon will be one step closer to reality.

“Not only is it a functional business,” Morgan said. “But it is also a place to showcase new art, really cool art and photos in the salon, and as an art venue.”

At the time, Morgan was still waiting on submissions from several international artists for the grand opening, but he said in the future he hopes to join the First Friday art shows and showcase additional photography and glasswork from local artists as well.

The grand opening celebration of Paisley Moon Salon and Gallery is scheduled to take place from 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday, August 6. Appointments are available by calling 302-684-HAIR (4247). Business hours are currently 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.
