Patricia Anne McCowan, spoke from the heart

February 22, 2021

Patricia Ann McCowan, “Pat,” 73, of Lewes passed away after a brief hospitalization Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.

Pat was born Nov. 12, 1947, at Johnson County Memorial Hospital, Franklin, Ind., to loving parents Glen and Sara McCowan. She was the “apple of her Dad’s eye” and spent many happy hours with her Grandma Branigin.

As an energetic child of the ‘50s, Patty Ann played many a game of cowboys and Indians with her best friend, Ron Humes, and it has been said she could make a mean mud pie.
Being a true baby boomer, Pat was willfully passionate, but she spoke from the heart. During her life Pat successfully raised a family, ran a business, bred and raised basset hounds, and was active with the Miss Delaware Pageant. She recently retired from Marshall’s and was enjoying her family, especially her three great-granddaughters. She shared her love of gardening with them. Pat had a true devotion to family and a love for her heritage.

Pat leaves behind a son, Jim McCarty (Jessica); two grandchildren, Ian McCarty (Miranda) and Sabrina McCarty; and four great-grandchildren, Rowan, Aveline, Elanor and Autumn McCarty. She is also survived by two sisters, Judy Curtis-Fishbaugh (Michael) of Franklin, and Karen Keller (Eric) of Gosport, Ind.; and longtime friend, Kathy Doner of Homosassa, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her son, David McCarty of Lewes; and nephew Jacob Keller of Gosport.

Due to the COVID outbreak, an Irish wake will be held in the future to celebrate the lives of Pat and her son, David McCarty, who passed away April 9, 2020.

“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

Arrangements were handled by Parsell Funeral Service in Lewes.
