Paul Henry Hastings, furniture store manager

Paul Henry Hastings, 83, died peacefully Saturday May 20, 2023, at his home in Bridgeville, after losing his battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Denton, Md., to the late Floyd P. and Anna M. Hastings, and was named after the doctor who delivered him.

Paul attended what was then Bridgeville School before moving to Denton, where he attended Caroline High School. He also attended Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown, focusing on a degree in business.

Paul married his wife Joan April 26, 1957, in Denton. He worked at Scott’s Furniture in Bridgeville for more than 25 years, starting as a delivery driver and moving to manager before leaving. Paul also worked in the home construction industry for a number of years for Paul Lynch and then for himself. He was interested in anything that required working with his hands, whether mechanical or wood.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his grandson, Craig Hastings; his brothers: Ray E. Hastings and Buddy Hastings; and his stepsister, Norma Jean Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan Hastings; his sons: Paul Brent Hastings (Susan) and Steven C. Hastings; his granddaughters: Brooke Evans, Nicole Lane and Riley Hastings; his great-grandchildren: Mason Lane and Kaylee Lane; his half-brother, Richard Dodd; and his several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Thursday, May 25, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
