PAWS for People WAG & Walkathon fundraiser kicks off Sept. 18

September 8, 2025

As part of its 20th-year celebration, PAWS for People, a Newark-based pet therapy nonprofit, will host its annual month-long cumulative WAG & Walkathon from Thursday, Sept. 18 to Saturday, Oct. 18. Participants can run or walk a marathon individually, with a pet or as a team, logging 26.2 miles at their own pace anytime over those 30 days.

WAG & Walkathon, PAWS’ largest fundraising event of the year, invites people of all ages to obtain pledges from family, friends and neighbors, with a goal of raising $50,000. These funds help support the nonprofit’s many pet therapy programs throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. This year’s WAG & Walkathon kicks off Sept. 18 with events in Wilmington and Lewes, and via Facebook live. The event wraps up Oct. 18, with a Furry Fall Festival at Delcastle Park in Wilmington. The festival features family-friendly fun, entertainment, food, vendors, doggie games and contests.

“This year’s WAG & Walk is especially important as we celebrate our 20th year of operation,” said Clarice Ritchie, PAWS for People executive director. “Funds raised will allow us to continue to provide pet therapy services and programs each year to more than 60,000 individuals in need in hospitals, skilled care facilities, mental health support centers, schools and a broad range of other areas.”

Participants can register online at pawsforpeople.org/walkathon or call 302-351-5622.
