Pearl O. Wilkerson, Sunday school teacher
Mrs. Pearl O. Wilkerson, 92, of Gumboro, passed away Friday, Aug. 26, 2011.
She was born June 3, 1919, in Willards, Md. to the late Ernest and Rosa Morris Smith. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband, John R. Wilkerson in 1982; three sisters; four brothers; and a granddaughter, Karen Rickards in 2002.
Mrs. Wilkerson was a member of the Gumboro United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, and worked at the bake table for church fundraisers. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed puzzles and baking pies for the church bake sales.
She is survived by six children; Lee Roy Wilkerson, Herman Wilkerson, Charles Wilkerson and his wife Bonnie, Calvin Wilkerson and his wife Judy, Edith Rickards and her husband Larry, and Robert “Bobby” Wilkerson and his wife Terri all of Gumboro; 11 grandchildren, Joe Wilkerson, Ann Gordon, George Wilkerson, C.J. Wilkerson, Stacey Burroughs, Donnie Wayne Wilkerson, Collin Lee Wilkerson, Michael Rickards, Robert Wilkerson Jr., John Edward Wilkerson and Dawn Deusa; and numerous great-grandchildren; and great-greatgrandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call after noon.
Friends may also call from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service at the New Hope Cemetery, Willards. The Rev. Doris Whaley will officiate.
