Peninsula Gallery hosts guest artist Karen Delaney

October 5, 2023

The Peninsula Gallery is hosting guest artist Karen Delaney and her large geometric abstract paintings in October.

Delaney has been an artist for 30 years. She exhibits in galleries and group shows regionally, nationally and internationally, and has works in private collections and institutions. She has a permanently installed 13-foot sculpture on the Danube River in Hungary and a 9-foot relief sculpture at Penn State, Great Valley.

Delaney has a master of fine arts degree from Radford University in Virginia, where she was a graduate teaching fellow. She has taught studio art and art history at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the Anglo-American College in Prague and Emmanuel College in Boston. She has a certificate in museum studies from Harvard University and worked in the Carnegie Museum of Art education department in Pittsburgh. For three years, she was executive director at the Chester County Art Association in West Chester, Pa.; in 2016, she shifted to curator there until May 2019.

The exhibit highlights two 36-inch-tall acrylic paintings from Delaney. The two pieces pay homage to her sculptural work, taking the oblong shapes often used for her 3-D metal pieces and placing them on top of a colorful abstract background. Delaney’s many layers of paint create a textural effect on the overall pieces, adding depth and intrigue.
