Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates in Salisbury, Md., announced that Dr. Scott Gelman has joined the practice.
His addition expands the practice’s joint replacement service line. Gelman will work alongside premier orthopaedic surgeons Dr. Pasquale Petrera, Dr. James Trauger, Dr. Anthony Adrignolo and Dr. Anthony Falvello. This team of experts is providing the most advanced and comprehensive treatment for hip and knee replacements in the region. POA staff are excited to expand upon its tradition of excellence with increased accessibility to quality orthopaedic providers on the Delmarva Peninsula.
Formerly practicing in Frederick, Md., Gelman will complement the practice’s successful arthroplasty program with a special interest in rapid recovery and advanced pain control, anterior hip replacement and total knee replacement as well as complex revisions of failed hip and knee replacements. He also has an interest in fracture care and will be assisting with orthopaedic trauma coverage at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. Gelman believes in an individualized, patient-centered approach that focuses on returning each patient to their maximum function.
Gelman completed his bachelor of arts degree in biology at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md., and his medical doctorate degree at the Geisinger Commonwealth College of Medicine in Scranton, Pa. Gelman selected Summa Health in Akron, Ohio, to complete a residency in orthopaedic surgery.
Dr. Pasquale Petrera said, “We welcome the addition of Dr. Scott Gelman, who will bring knowledge, youth and excitement to our total joint team. His addition will help solidify POA as the premier total joint destination on the Delmarva Peninsula.”
Although Gelman’s wife Emily was raised on the Eastern Shore, this is the first time he is putting down local roots. He is excited to relocate his family from the Frederick area to Salisbury, where they’ll be closer to his wife’s family.
