Penny Lane Wine, Spirits & Beer now open in Rehoboth

Penny Lane Wine, Spirits & Beer manager Dave Zacharko said at 600 square feet, he knows Rehoboth’s newest liquor store can’t have everything, but, he said, “there is a little of this and a little of that.”

Located in Penny Lane Mall, which connects Rehoboth and Wilmington avenues, the liquor store opened in July. Zacharko said the store is looking to address a need for a liquor store close to the Boardwalk, beach, hotels and condos.

“This is a lot more convenient than having to walk a handful of blocks,” Zacharko said.

Pointing to the three wine racks that were made by hand onsite, Zacharko said property owner Clint Bunting wanted to create a boutique feel.

“This isn’t the typical liquor store,” Zacharko said.

Wine is the the best seller, Zacharko said, but that’s because the wine racks are visible from the mall’s intimate walkway. He said when people come in to check out the store, they’re often surprised to see the selection of spirits and beers.

“They walk in and see the wall of spirits, and say, ‘Oh, you have spirits.’ Then they walk in even further, and they’ll say, ‘Oh, you have beer,’” said Zacharko.

In addition to the alcohol, Penny Lane Spirits has mixers, snacks and ice. There are also stacks and stacks of red Solo cups, said Zacharko.

Zacharko said the plan is to try and keep the store open year-round, but he said right now he’s not sure that will happen.
