PEO Chapter L awards Delaware Star Scholarship

June 12, 2020

P.E.O. Chapter L in Lewes has awarded Anna Stancofski, a senior at Cape Henlopen High School, the PEO Star Scholarship in the amount of $2,500.

PEO International Star Scholarships provide recognition of high school women in the local community who achieved excellence in academics and extracurricular activities focusing on leadership roles and teamwork. This competitive program provides an annual grant in recognition of scholarly excellence for a young woman who plans to enroll in college.

Anna was senior class president, maintaining the highest grade-point average and excelling in three varsity team sports. She volunteered with the Leo Club and participated in fundraising. Throughout the lengthy interview process Anna showed great passion and leadership qualities. Her poise and ease when asking questions about the Star program and the PEO mission allowed a mutual exchange of information. She plans to study mathematics and science at Swarthmore College in the fall.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded Jan. 21, 1869, at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing women increased opportunities for higher education. There are approximately 6,000 local PEO chapters in the United States and Canada with nearly 240,000 active members. Chapter L, Lewes, was organized in May 1999.
