Perfect weather for 26 teams at 40th Annual Sandcastle Contest

Sea life, beach life and other creative sculptures take over Rehoboth Beach

Sand sculpting lessons the day before may have been cancelled, but Hurricane Dorian blew through just in time for 26 teams to participate in the 40th Annual Sandcastle Contest in Rehoboth Beach.

The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted the Sept. 7 event.

In no particular order, the top eight favorites of the adult People’s Choice were Artistic Differences, by team Bollinger; Lion on the Beach, by team Lion Queens; My Guardian Angel Dan, by team Shaffer; Dorian’s Castle, by team Hamm; Dogs of Delaware, by team 3 Dawg Morning; 50th Anniversary of Woodstock, by team Marietta; All Are Welcome by team Faverio; and Schaffer Sands, by team Schaffer Sand Creations.

Again in no particular order, the top five favorites of the youth People’s Choice were Crab Love, by Team Jesus; Shark Bite, by team Sharktooth; Creation, by team Aaliyah & Kaila; Unicorn Mermaid by team Ginder; and Creation, by team Tiger Blood.

Delmarva Power’s Disney Castle was named People’s Choice Favorite for business division.
