The Philadelphia Phillies acquire Bryce Harper

March 8, 2019

I am pleased that the Phillies finally stepped up to sign Bryce Harper. To make the Phillies fans welcome him to the team, he better perform a whole lot better than he did last year for the Washington Nationals.

Bryce made history with this contract, signing to be a Philly for 13 years! That's the longest contract in baseball history and seems just plain odd to me. To make that contract worth it, he’s going to have to play like Barry Bonds did for the San Francisco Giants starting in 1993. I don’t think Harper is capable of that, but he is definitely a huge upgrade. It will be great to just get the baseball season going and see what happens.

Amazingly, the NBA season is coming down the stretch and, unless the Los Angeles Lakers win almost every game they have left, LeBron James will miss the playoffs for the first time in his career!

If this does happen, he cannot be considered the best player ever, because Michael Jordan never missed the playoffs in his entire career. The NBA front office is not going to be happy with the best player not playing for a championship as this will definitely mess with TV ratings.

The 76ers are still in fourth place in the Eastern Conference playoffs but they need their best player, Joel Embiid, to step up if they are going to have any chance to make a deep run.

I would like to end on a local note and say congratulations to the Cape Henlopen high school women’s basketball team. They came out of nowhere to make it to the second round of the state playoffs this year. There's a lot of talent on this team and I hope they can come back next year do even more.
