As of now, the Phillies have a five-game lead over the New York Mets, but this is an important weekend if they want to stay on top. The Phillies play the Nationals for four straight games this weekend, while the Mets play the struggling Atlanta Braves at home. The Phillies have been very inconsistent in their play. They managed to sweep the Texas Rangers, but then lost the last two games against the Cincinnati Reds in very disappointing fashion. They need to step up and get some solid wins and not drive their fanbase crazy.
Early next week, they should be getting some reinforcements back when Aaron Nola and Alec Bohm are back with the team. Nola has been out for over three months with ankle and ribcage issues, and Bohm had a broken rib.
I hope the offense wakes up again against the Nationals and gets the much-needed runs it needs to keep the Phillies in the division lead.
The Eagles were able to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals in their first preseason game. No. 2 quarterback Tanner McKee started the game and played quite well. I hope he never has to play in a close game this season because that will mean Hurts is out again. I think this will be McKee's last season as an Eagle, though, because he won’t be happy just being the backup quarterback.
There was some bad news on Sunday during the open practice that starting guard Landon Dickerson suffered a meniscus tear. This will take him out of the rest of the preseason and possibly the first two games of the regular season. Not a good start for sure.
The Eagles’ next game is Saturday against the Cleveland Browns. I hope there are no significant injuries to anymore players as that would really mess up being solid hopefuls when the games count. This is why I really don't like the intensity level of preseason.
