Players, fans see the light with new scoreboards at Lewes Little League

May 16, 2025

Lewes Little League held its Light Up the Scoreboards event May 8, at the ball fields near the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal, with Jim Murphy, grounds manager, flipping the switch to officially illuminate the new equipment.

President Mike DiMuzio spoke about the donation and thanked Tim Ranzetta and his foundation, Next Gen Personal Finance, for donating the entire amount to pay for the scoreboard on the baseball field. A permanent sign with the NGPF logo will be affixed at the bottom of the board. “Thank you to Tim and Next Gen Personal Finance – we are so grateful for his generosity and support of the youth at Lewes Little League,” DiMuzio said.

The event also included an announcement of the 2025 Volunteer of the Year, Tiffany O’Malley, who has given Lewes Little League hours and hours of service since she joined the board in 1995. When her daughter played tee ball, machine pitch, and softball minors and majors, O’Malley was a constant presence as a coach on the field. For the last couple of years, she has served as vice president of softball, doing many things behind the scenes for the softball program and Lewes Little League. She has always stepped up when help was needed in the Snack Shack, at team picture nights, and upstairs in the press box when the league hosts District 3 and Delaware state tournaments. Her husband Joe is an umpire for Lewes Little League.

This year, Lewes Little League has more than 530 players on 45 teams, with 285 games scheduled during the regular season. There are six baseball major teams, seven baseball minor teams, one softball major team, four softball minor teams, 12 machine pitch teams (two of them all-girls), and 15 tee ball teams. Beyond that, there are 52 junior/senior baseball and softball players in Lewes Little League. The league has 175 registered volunteers serving as board members, umpires, team managers, assistant coaches and team parents at Lewes. Thanks go to all of them for helping make Lewes Little League the best league in the district, DiMuzio said.
