Please respect our roads and beaches

July 7, 2023

It’s that time of the year again. Our roads and beaches quadruple with cars and folks going to our beaches. We love people coming to our beautiful towns and tranquil beaches, but please respect our roads and beaches!

Driving from Cave Neck Road south to Rehoboth Avenue can be scary! Cars weaving in and out of traffic, cars using the bus and bike lanes as a traffic lane. The speed limit on Nassau Bridge is 45 mph, but cars fly across the bridge in excess of 55 mph, if not more. Come on, folks, our senior residents and our families and friends use these roads. This is not Dover Speedway. Please respect our roads and those of us who use our roads on a daily basis!

We love Lewes Beach, as well as all our beaches here in Sussex County. My girlfriend and I went up to Lewes Beach one recent morning early, as we usually do. Walking up onto the beach, we where greeted by empty plastic bottles and food wrappers. Picking them up and walking to one of the two sets of trash cans, I was thinking, is it laziness or disrespect for our beaches? In closing, I would just like to ask all residents and visitors, please respect our highways, roads and beaches. This is our home.
