Pooches in the Park event returns to Lewes May 18

May 6, 2019

Lewes Canalfront Park will host the 7th annual Pooches in the Park event from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 18. The park is at 211 Front St. on the banks of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal in Historic Lewes.

This free, festive event caters to both two-legged and four-legged family members, featuring fun, creative and informative activities for dogs and those who love them. Attractions include interactive training, agility, behavioral and obedience demonstrations that attendees may observe or participate in with experts in their field. Other offerings include pet portraits, CPR and first-aid instruction, games and prizes, and displays from more than 20 specialized exhibitors. Attending pups can receive goodies to take home to enjoy with their humans.

Nationally recognized, crowd-pleasing dock-diving dogs will be launching off the recently refurbished floating docks at the park. Law enforcement K-9 units from across Delaware return to showcase the skills of both handlers and their canine partners in awe-inspiring maneuvers. Pooches should be on maximum 6- to 8-foot, non-retractable leashes, with one dog per handler.

This event is free thanks to the support of Savannah Animal Hospital, The Cape Gazette, Gateway Subaru, Jack Lingo Realtor, PetSmart, Only Natural Pet, PUPS Pet Shop of Lewes, the Issel family, the Tugend/Fischbach family and Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park. A rain date of June 1 has been set. For event details, go to www.lewescanalfrontpark.org or the park's Facebook page, or call the information hotline, 302-645-2795.
