Possum Point Players to hold auditions Oct. 23-24 for January show
Possum Point Players will hold auditions for “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” at 7 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 23 and 24, in the Green Room of Possum Hall, 441 Old Laurel Road, Georgetown.
The show is directed by Ray Crew. The award-winning stage production was written by Simon Stephens and is based on the novel of the same name by Mark Haddon. Possums’ production dates are Friday to Sunday, Jan. 26 to 28, and Feb. 2 to 4.
Cast breakdowns by age are one male 15 +, three males 35-58, one male 45-65, two females 20-35, two females 35-58, and one female 55-75.
Brief character descriptions are as follows: Christopher John Francis Boone is a brilliant, socially awkward teenager who is on the autism spectrum. He becomes involved in a mystery after discovering a neighbor’s dog stabbed to death with a garden fork. As he works to solve the mystery, he also goes on an emotional but enriching journey of self-discovery.
Ed Boone is Christopher’s father, a boiler engineer who is struggling as a single parent raising his son the best he can. As a working-class man, proud, gruff and brusque, he is unable to convey his emotions but loves his son deeply.
Judy Boone is Christopher’s mother, and her absence unfolds gradually, introducing another level of mystery. She has a tough exterior and a loving heart, a free spirit who loves her son but has no idea how to raise him.
Siobhan is Christopher’s teacher and mentor, and the only person who really understands him. She strives to teach him how society works and how to behave within its guidelines. She is warm, caring, calm and gentle. She often serves as a narrator as she reads from the book Christopher wrote.
Mrs. Shears is Christopher’s neighbor, divorced, furious at the world and worn out by life after being betrayed and abandoned by her husband. This actor also portrays Voice One, Mrs. Gascoyne, Woman on Train and Shopkeeper.
Roger Shears, Mrs. Shears’ ex-husband, is a middle-class professional man who left his wife for Christopher’s mother. He has no interest in understanding or raising the boy. This actor also portrays Voice Two, Mr. Wise, Duty Seargeant, Man behind the counter, and Drunk One.
Voice Three plays a variety of roles such as Policeman, Man with Socks and Drunk Two.
Voice Four also plays a variety of roles such as Rev. Peters, Uncle Terry and Station Guard.
